Sometimes we all find ourselves in a position where we have so much work but so little time. The feeling of not being able to reach your goals and or missing deadlines, that accompanies it can be demoralising.
If you are up to your neck with things that need done, here are 5 quick tips on how to get rid of that annoying backlog:
1. Mind dump your tasks.
You can do this by simply grabbing a pen and a plain piece of paper and writing down all the tasks that you need done.This will help you get to a mental blank slate. From here you can begin to organise tasks rather than having them nagging at the back of your mind.
2. Live by your to-do list.
There is no right or wrong way to put this list together but the goal is to find a method that works for you. It takes discipline to accomplish this and some tasks will not be as exciting than others but the feeling you get once all of the items are crossed off your list is so rewarding.
3. Batch similar tasks.
This is a life saver for me as I’m not the best when it comes to having a long attention span. Moving from task to task actually reduce your attention span by 40% therefore backing and working on similar tasks helps you tackle them in one scoop whilst helping you stay within the same frame of mind.
4. Remove distractions.
Yes, that means turning off your TV and social media for a while. Innocent conversations with colleagues if you work in an office can be a time thief as well.Turn off your phone or stick a Do-Not-Disturb sign on your door to deal with the tasks that require your full attention.
5. Honour your natural rhythms.
Whether you’re a night owl or an early bird, find out what time in the day you are most productive and stick to it. This will ensure you are energise and ready to deal with your toughest projects at the times when you’re at your optimum productivity.
